Bar Harbour 2013 Kentucky Derby Style

On Thursday, May 30th, 2013, I, along with co-pilot, Linda headed for Bar Harbour. (too long a story to write about why we missed meeting up with the Nova Scotianers) Top down, Kentucky Derby hats  packed, and as little other luggage as possible -  the hats took priority as well as a lot of space !

It was a quick trip!  We arrived at the Wonder View to sunshine and  high temps – I might add, that lasted for the  entire week-end.

Upon  arriving, we met up with old friends that were sipping and anticipating the arrival of Hank & Mary.  Registering in took very little time, as did finding our registration bag – the bags were beautiful and well designed – done  to  ‘theme and sewn , etc., by  a VOCM member. I couldn’t help but think that they sure do put ‘my plastic bags to shame !!! The name of  person  that made the bags, - DIANE BOSSERT.

Not too much changes from last year – we were on room level with the Nova Scotianers and folks from CSNB – first task for Kelly was to clean the car while Linda got us a cold beer and then the fun began !  Everybody was on a search for horses....and they were serious !!!  Last year, it was ‘spark plugs.  The Nova Scotianers were real serious and they never stopped searching.  We were, as well, but only found FIVE horses....compared to 30 plus that the NS’ers had !

It was a super week-end from start to finish.....from the parties in our 'parking lot to the eating and sipping downtown, the horse hunts, the Jordan Pond drive and lunch, the horse hunts, the drive  around the loop (loved that) more horse hunting and the Kentucky Derby night ! Terrific gourmet style buffet, wonderful photo ‘ops.....and prizes.  I was pleased to accept FIRST PLACE in my class......and it was really great to see Fern and Grant win the big prize as ‘favourite of the WonderView ! (they also took their class)  Many more prizes went to the Canadian  clubs from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick...if there had been a prize for top party folks, I think it would have gone to the same  clubs !

As in the past, I managed to listen each evening to the piano ‘stylings of the very talented Bill Trowell .  A good time was had by all and I have my reservation made at the Wonder View for next year ! Many thanks to Deb Shepard and everyone from VOCM for the wonderful hospitality...oh, and a big thanks to all of the other old friends and new friends that helped make this a super weekend !
