River Valley Vettes Wine & Cheese Party 2010

Once again it was time for River Valley Vettes to have the annual "Wine and Cheese Party"and again Kevin and Bonnie Douglas opened up their lovely home to RVV members. A great turnout on Saturday night with lots of laughs and chatter and even a proposal by one of the members. Check out the pictures to see who !!!!!!!! Kelly Kelly did a wonderful job of pulling everything together ! Again I'd like to thank the Douglas's on behalf of RVV members for opening up their beautiful home. Now if we could only get some club executives for this up coming corvette season , things would be better ! It would be a sin to see such a great club go down the tubes !

John Thompson Mystery Run 2010

John Thompson’s Mystery Run
• When John Thompson announced that he was organizing a mystery run, you could feel the excitement bubbling through River Valley Vettes-almost overwhelming ! Everyone was excited about the ‘run but, when it was announced that a free steak dinner with all the fixings was included, well, - you can just imagine !
• Fun, Food and Corvetting – and it was all going to happen on October 24th, 2010.
• Sunday, the 24th was a beautiful warm and sunny fall day. We(KK and PP) met, at O’Leary’s, with the other corvetters-Ron & Anne,Peter & Marilyn,Danny & Karen,Alfred & Linda,Tom & Lois,Vern& Julia,Malcolm & Simone. There was also a ‘non-corvetting couple – Bob and Joanne
• When John met us, he was armed with instruction sheets and and carefully timed us as we left the parking area every three minutes. We had been told in advance that a digital camera was a necessity. Unfortunately for the couple in the C3, nobody mentioned that answers were in both miles and/or kilometers ! Being as sharp as they are, Danny and Karen were able to do the much needed calculations to change miles into kilometers.
• Leaving the parking lot presented the first problem – where is Bishop Drive ? We heard that having a GPS helped in many instances. It was obvious when we walked into the Riverside Inn that many had been there before us – we didn’t ask the question ‘re # of rooms at the Inn and we did not even plan to ask for an Alpine can.....but she told us !! Along the route, we discovered that digitals are not always ‘instant when you push the shutter button-especially if they are on the wrong setting. That resulted in us having a few ‘back bumpers of corvettes we had met !We also found that it doesn’t take ‘MUCH to impress people......(unlike the writer and navigator) We had lovely conversation with the man at St Mary’s gas bar...he would not stop talking-I think that is partly why we were last arriving at our destination;of course, our 10 or 15 minutes talking with what ‘impressed us the most might have added to our time delay.
• At this point, perhaps it is time to mention the infamous ‘always lost Bob has lost his title to Tom and Lois. Not sure if Bob has improved or if he just has a good GPS and navigator. Not sure what to say about Tom and Lois .
• Although I think we were all winners, there was one car (NOT even a vette) that took top honours – Bob and Joanne. Word is out re a committee being formed to challenge the win;something to do with a rock that wasn’t quite ‘legal. ))) They might be asked to return their prize for first place.(by the way, their prize was a beautiful steak bbq with all the fixings prepared by John, Pauline and our bear-making friend,Donna)
• The weather, the mystery run,the final destination and dinner were all wonderful – a big thanks to John, Pauline and Donna. By the way, I am sooooooooooo happy to know where Highway 635 South is !
Almost forgot to mention, everyone else got the same prize as the ‘winners !

Winners Again in Florida
• After putting in a
winning performance on John Thompson's Mystery Run just before coming to
Florida, we participated in the Joshua House Rallye today in the St.
Petersburg peninsula. John's run was the primer that we needed to win the
rallye today organized by Bay Area Corvette Club. This rallye is organized
to support Joshua House Foundation, Inc., an organization that tends to
abused children in the Tampa Bay area. They collected a truck load of toys
for the deserving kids for Christmas. Joanne and I were the winners. It
was our first run with The Tampa Bay Posse. Joanne and I are pictured above with
the truck load of toys at the end of the rallye. There is also a picture of
Joanne wearing the colours of our new club and there is a picture of one of
the gals wearing a Corvette Fever shirt with a remedy for the fever.
Weather was perfect when we first came down....90 degrees but this
weekend brought a severe cold front (for which I have taken the abuse, as
everyone says it's a Canadian cold front brought down by the Canadian!).
It's supposed to warm up this week.
Enjoying Florida. Just wanted to pass along the news and thank John
Thompson for the experience at his run. That's two in a row.

RVV members & friends go Tubing on the Nashwaak River

Sunday, August 8th, a group of corvetters and non corvetters hit the Nashwaak River for a leisurely afternoon of tubing ! Getting parked, registering and paying along with 'picking out a tube came first. So funny the way we each picked through them as if we knew one was really better than the other...well, we were 'almost professional 'tubers..is that really a word ??
We were transported to the river in a van hauling OUR specially picked tubes.....some old regular truck tubes and some new and fancy blue tubes with bottoms to sit our bottoms in...HONEST ! Of course there were the really important ones, as well -the 'cooler tubes ! Some had more horsepower than others.....some were built closer to the ground or rocks in water...perhaps that depended on the weight the tube was carrying...some were more prone to fetching up on a rock...some tubers were in 'warm water most of the trip - this depended on the number and proximity of, tubers ahead of them....

We did a bit of river clean-up. We sipped cold drinks...if close enough to a cooler tube. We expressed pride in Lois...not a swimmer and not very excited about water, Lois did get on a tube and 'let Tom haul her down the Nashwaak !! And, what was his 'comment ??? He was wearing out and had to give up hauling his cooler tube !!! We got into the river at approximately 1:30...arrived at what shd have been the end of the 1 1/2 hour float , three hours later.... few scraped arms, a few strange looking stains on shirts, potential for sunburns, etc etc etc.

.............some tubers were fast, some slow, one had a steering stick, four tied themselves together to keep from drowning or going too fast, one kept falling asleep, one saved KK by throwing her a beer at a crucial moment, one was exhausted from hauling dead weight ???:))) Two were looking for fish and wondering if the trip would be much longer, and a couple just quietly tubed along enjoying all that was happening around them.

We headed to Kelly and Leigh's place where Leigh was eagerly awaiting our arrival...yes, he was EAGERLY awaiting our arrival !!!. Corn, mussels, ice cream cake were all on the menu ...Tables were 'set/chairs were out....Leigh was the ultimate host.........just then Gloria and Arnie arrived.....without toilet paper....(long story...ask Arnie about that)

We had LOTS of fun and food..It was really a fun time and I wish we had been able to share it with others-perhaps other clubs ! Thanks to Pauline, Linda, Lindsay, Cheryl and Gail for joining the corvetters, Rick, the Patriquins, the Calhouns, , the Johnstons , the Hiltz('s) and KK---
We all made it from point 'A to point B safely and none the worse for wear ! All comments are welcome about the day !!! Was my first tubing experience..hopefully, not my last ! I now know some things that we could do to make it even better...will tell you that NEXT time we go tubing.................

RVV 2010 After Xmas Xmas Party

River Valley Vette members all gathered at Rick Kelly's home on Saturday night for the annual "After Xmas Xmas Party".Nice to see so many members all gather and socialize during the winter while we all wait for warmer weather to get our cars out ! Nice to see Bob & Janice Surrette and Roger & Angie Bourgeoise from the Moncton Corvette Club as well ! Our new club executives was announced Saturday night ..........President-Vernon Patriquin, Secretary- John Johnston, and Treasurer- John Garwood . Vice President is still up for grabs , so if anyone is interested in filling the shoes , contact one of the club executives ! I'd like to thank John and Dawn Garwood for organizing the games and for Rick Kelly for opening up his home . Great turnout ! By the way Dawn and John..........that lasagna looked some good ,if that's any consolation ! Next event will be the Bowlling challenge(to be announced later )
