Twas the Night Before Christmas - Corvette Style

Twas the Night Before Christmas - Corvette Style

'Twas the night before Christmas and out in the garage,
There wasn't a trace of a Honda, Toyota, or Dodge.
The presents were wrapped and the lights were all lit,
So I figured I'd mess with my classic Corvette for a bit.

I popped the release and lifted the hood,
When a deep voice behind me said "looks pretty good."
Well, as you can imagine, I turned mighty quick,
And there, by the workbench, stood good ol Saint Nick!

We stood there a bit, not too sure what to say,
Then he said "don't suppose that you'd trade for my sleigh?
"No way, Santa" I said with a grin,
"But if you've got the time we can go for a spin!"

His round little mouth, all tied up like a bow,
Turned into a smile and he said "Sure! Let's go!!"
So as not to disturb all the neighbors' retreat,
We quietly pushed the Vette out to the street,

Then, taking our places to coast down the hill,
I turned on the key and I let the clutch spill.
The sound that erupted took him quite by surprise,
But he liked it a lot, by the look in his eyes.

With tires a' screaming and side pipes aglow,
We headed on out to where the hot rodders go.
And Santa's grin widened, approaching his ears,
With every shift up as I banged through the gears.

Then he yelled "can't recall when I've felt so alive!"
So I backed off the gas and asked Santa if he wanted to drive.
Ol Santa was stunned when I gave him the keys,
When he walked past the headlights he shook at the knees!

The Corvette exploded with side exhaust sound!
And when Santa let out the clutch and the tires shook the ground!
Power shift into second, again into third!
I sat there just watching, at loss for a word,

Then I heard him exclaim as we blasted from sight,
"Merry Christmas to all, it's one hell of a night!!!"

President's Run

This past Saturday John Garwood had his President's Run for River Valley Vettes and couldn't have asked for a nicer day for this late in the year. It started off with meeting up at Pizza Delight Northside and making a country side drive to Stanley. There we had a pit stop at John's office and found where he spends his time through the week. Time for lunch now and John treated us all to pizza, which by the way was very delicious ! Thanks John ! Days are shorter now so we had to hurry to Oromocto for a fun baseball game was planned. Lots of laughs here needless to say. We then all headed to my place where we had a surprise birthday setup for Kelly Kelly. Thanks for Kelly's husband Leigh for helping me with the BBQ and the corn boil. I'd like to thank Bob & Janice Surette ,Roger & Angie Bourgeois and Fernand Leblanc for coming up from the Moncton Corvette Club.Nice job John ! Even the rain couldn't keep them away! Rainy, wet but warm was the make of the day Friday & Saturday but the show and shine went on regardless. It started off Friday evening with a BBQ at the beautiful home of Kevin Douglas and would like to thank him on behalf of the club for opening his grand home and putting up with us again this year !Saturday morning came with more rain but that did not stop true corvetters from arriving on Queen Street, downtown Fredericton, where we had the street blocked off from all traffic, other than corvettes ! Saturday night the action moved to Fredericton Motor Inn where a buffet followed by a dance before heading home.
I would also like to thank Trevor Hunter for donating money for the lovely dash plaques this year as well as some great prizes !!

Borla X- pipe

A new addition to Ron Gould's 2002 corvette roadster this year is the replacement of the original H-pipe exhaust for a new Borla X-pipe.Apparently it gives a little more HP but more importantly it gits rid of a warbling sound when idling that Ron did not care for. As the picture shows the under carriage of Ron's car is probably cleaner than when it came from the factory

You Know You Are A Corvette Owner When You…

You Know You Are A Corvette Owner When You…

1. Just sit in your car and look over the inside and think about how great the car looks.

2. Look at another Corvette and think, wow, that car does look great.

3. Wash your car at 2am after a night out.

4. Buy a leaf blower and have no intention of using it in the yard.

5. Your garage has a security alarm system and your house doesn’t.

6. Pay $10 for something that should cost $1.

7. Walk to your vehicle and immediately attend to the bird poop on the hood instead of opening the door for your wife.

8. Your first concern when going somewhere is what the parking lot is like.

9. Test 3 different types of wax on ANOTHER car so you won’t mess up on the Corvette.

10. Your wife states that you touch/rub that car more than her.

11. When everyone on your block knows you’ve left your driveway by the noise.

12. Spend more time waxing your car and staring at it than you do driving it.

13. Have more pictures of your car than family members.

14.Spend more money on towels for the car than you do for all the bathrooms in your house.

15. Have the habit of removing perfectly functional parts/components and replace them with new perfectly functional parts/components.

16. Still go to the garage and look at your car.

17. Check the weather report before you take it for a drive.

18. Enjoy the first drive in the spring more than the vacation you just came back from.

19. Read this list and nod yes to every item.

River Valley Vette Bowling (HARVEY STYLE)

Bowling Harvey Style.
Practice, Sunday 15 March
Bowling Rules by John Thompson:
First String, First box bowl with right hand
Second box bowl with left hand.
Second String, Normal Bowling.
Last string only 3 boxes, Women bowl normal bowling,
Men bowl two boxes normal, last box backwards.
Now that we have rules straightened out, lets get on to the day in Harvey. Eighteen members showed up to bowl and had a lot of laughs and a good time. As you can tell by rules this was very serious bowling, (Harvey Style). As you can tell, scores were not too high, except our resident Harvey bowler, Peter Wood, who bowling score for 1 string was 119. Now would you say that he is a good bowler or just used to Harvey rules? Other scores we will not discuss. Now as you can see when the competition comes between clubs, R.V.V. Members are ready for anything
After bowling was over, some went over to John & Pauline's new home to see how the work is coming along, and it is a lovely home and John is a perfectionist when it comes to building a home. Everyone was impressed. A lot of hard work has gone into building this home which he hopes to have completed by June this year. From there we all went to Peter & Marilyn's home for a pot luck supper. Food was great We all want to thank our host and hostess for opening their home to the members. At this time we all would like to thank John T. for his preparation and imagination for the bowling and the interesting rules. We also had a birthday cake for John T. Happy 60th Birthday John.
Members attending were, John & Pauline Thompson, Peter & Marilyn Wood, Arnie & Gloria Adams, John & Dawn Garwood, Rick Kelly & Margie Goodin, Ron & Anne Gould, Danny :& Karen Calhoun, Malcolm & Simone MacDonald, Vern & Julia Patriquin.
Saint John & Moncton Clubs watch out, after this we are ready for the competition on 4 April. This should be our year to bring home the trophy for sure.
Just look at the pictures and you can see we are certified pros.
