RVV Last Run of the Year to Calais

Sunday was the last planned trip of RVV of the corvetting season. It started off a little damp but by the time we got to Calais , the sun broke out.A great turnout of 14 cars I believe. Started off by shopping at Walmart , Mardens and VIP stores and ended up back in Canada for a delicious seafood dinner at Comeau's. A great way to spend a Sunday and fun was had by all !

Corvettes, Calais & Comeau’s: What started as at delayed, damp, rag tag start to the run with an extended wait at the Calais border ended with sunny skies, smiley faces and full tummies as R.V.V. members participated in what will probably be their final club run of the season. Fifteen Corvettes singed-up for this run and we actually had twelve Corvettes and a Monte Carlo show-up. Calais was the first stop and member’s Corvettes could be seen moving or stopped on many of Calais’s streets and parking lots. Members visited Wal Mart, V.I.P., Mardens, Tractor Supply ( ? ), gas bars etc in scurry that would remind one of a bust ant hill. Next stop was Comeau’s Restaurant in Pennfield where members enjoyed great seating, great food and excellent service. On the return home portion some members chose Rte. 7 while others chose Rte. 3. Each choosing the closest to home run. Members participating were: Vernon & Julia, Tom & Lois, Mark & Wanda, Dave & Judy,  Mac & Simone, Wayne, Danny & Karen, Charles & Minerva, John & Pauline, Peter & Marilyn, Laurie & Sherry, Harley & Pat and Rick & Lisa.

MacDonald's Corvette Viewing

R.V.V. Views MacDonald Corvette Collection 2013:

You could not script a better weather day for this run! Saturday, Sept. 21st. was a bright and sunny day as 12 R.V.V. Vettes, a Camaro and a Saturn gathered at Robin’s Inn for a run to Moncton. We also picked up a Jaguar enroute. Fifteen vehicles in total!! The run to Moncton was one where all participants thoroughly enjoyed the potential of their Corvettes and that includes Larry with his Corvette powered Camaro and Carman in his want-a-be Corvette Saturn. We picked up the Jag in Salisbury. That’s all I’m going to say about that!  Doug MacDonald welcomed us at his Corvette warehouse with a big smile, an incredible wealth of knowledge and enough eye candy to keep you dreaming throughout the winter months. Doug has some of the more highly sought after Corvettes in his collection that you will see anywhere! Many are for sale as well. An excellent, very informative tour. Well done Doug! Next stop was the Casino for lunch and then on to the Magnetic Hill / Boardwalk Complex. Here some went to the Zoo while those with cameras went to Boardwalk for the go-carts and some rock-em-sock-em type racing thanks to an un-named Woodstock driver. The run also included a quick Princess Auto stop and one of the most unusual endings you will ever encounter. While dining at the Blue Canoe before the final five cars went their separate ways our server approached our table with our bills and announced, to our stunned surprise, that her previous customer had picked-up our tab!!! Yes, he paid for all ten of us! Go figure.
Martin Thomas has left a new comment on your post "MacDonald's Corvette Viewing":

Hello,

It is well-known for his amazing collection of Corvette parts for sale and other significant Chevys, which is including the world’s most complete Corvette collection, neon sign, memorabilia and vintage parts. Thanks......

Wheels on The Waterfront 2013

R.V.V. was Bangor BoundWheels on The Waterfront 2013. – A sunny Friday, Sept. 7th. saw nine R.V.V. Vettes arrive in Bangor for Wheels on The Waterfront 2013. Some arrived in the morning; some in the afternoon and some arrived on Saturday. Attending were John & Jean, Kelly & Linda, Wanda & Tom, Mac & Simone, Peter & Marilyn, John & Pauline, Mike & Hilda, Jim & Fran and Julia & Vernon. Most members stayed at Ecnolodge again this year and were joined by a Camaro Hugger from Harvey named Ron Messer and his wife Sharron. ( Very nice couple .... but they really need a Vette ) As the pictures indicate we wined and dined, laughed, saw some very interesting cars, had some R.V.V. winners, wined and dined some more, shopped, some got lost ( women drivers ), gambled and all agreed it was a “ do it again in a heartbeat week-end “. Talk with any attendee for a more detailed account of the week-end

Moncton Times and Transcript

Auto event turns stereotypes around
Atlantic Nationals not just about men and their cars as women step on the gas when it comes to keeping up their classics

BY GINABETH ROBERTS

TIMES & TRANSCRIPT STAFF

When it comes to sitting pretty in a shiny, greased-up four-wheel metal machine, men are typically pictured
in the driver's seat.
But at this week's 13th annual Atlantic Nationals women owners of hot rods are set to turn that stereotype on its wheels.
As the car show rolls into Metro Moncton July 11 to 14 many women participants will be teaching spectators how not to - or maybe how to - judge a woman by her car.
Among them will be Kelly Kelly, a member of the River Valley Vettes Corvette Club, who'll be cruising
with her cocker spaniel, Harley D. Kelly, in her 2002 torch red convertible Corvette.
And that's her car, just to be clear, not her husband's.
'Whenever somebody sees the car - if I'm just sitting somewhere near the car - people automatically expect it to belong to a man,' she said. 'When they see me working under the hood, cleaning everything
up like the way mine is, they think I'm cleaning it up for my husband.' Kelly has been part of the River Valley Vettes Corvette Club for more than 20 years, and even before that was a member of one of the original Corvette clubs that started in the '80s, the Corvette Capers.
The Fredericton native has been coming to the show almost every year since its inception, but only with her own car since 2006.
But at this event, it doesn't really matter who's behind the wheel, as long as the car looks good.
Kelly's husband, amongst more than 2,000 other vehicles, will be with her in his 1955 Nomad. The two also have a 1970 Corvette.
Still, Kelly believes the show is a great place for women to break stereotypes and stigmas that align hot, jacked-up or blinged-out cars only with men.
Many women, she said, love cars just as much and are dedicated to making them look good.
'For me, it's because I just love Corvettes,' Kelly said. 'I've always loved cars.
'I remember when I was in high school, I used to know all the cars (but) I never, ever had one, and never thought I'd own some great-looking car or anything,' she continued.
Not a lot of work had to go into that great-looking car that she does now own, as Kelly said it came just the way she wanted it.
'If I had been ordering a brandnew car, this car had exactly every single thing on it that I would have ordered,' she said. 'Not one thing different.' 'The main thing about it was that I wanted a six-speed,' she added.
'A lot of people - men, even seem to think they want an automatic, and I just can't see that at all,' she laughed.
She said many women do go with their husbands and their cars, but even sitting in shotgun have a great time.
'They know as much about the cars as do their husbands, sometimes maybe even more,' Kelly said.
She's also excited about the social aspects of the show, meeting up with friends and fellow Corvette owners from Nova Scotia and the United States at events such as the Saturday night Rock 'n' Roll dance party at Casino New Brunswick, featuring Donnie & The Monarchs.
For a couple years she dressed up in the rock n' roll style and is thinking of donning a get-up once again, maybe a poodle skirt with cocker spaniel on it.
Ferne MacDonald, Atlantic Nationals volunteer, is currently working on restoring a 1973 Charger with her husband.
While the car won't be ready to be in the spotlight at this year's show, she's full participating in the restoration, grinding off paint and other tasks requiring some elbow grease.
'He'll get me to help with anything,' MacDonald said of her husband.
'I'd say the majority of the car guys out there, their wives are just as much involved in the cars as they are,' she added.
She said women may also first become interested in cars because their significant others are 'car nuts' and they want in on the lifestyle.
'They start to go out to car shows, and they start to get interested in building the car, seeing it come from a piece of rust to this shiny car that's really awesome to look at and drive in,' she said.
MacDonald said the show offers lots of camaraderie-driven entertainment and events for women, especially in case they do want some time away from the cars. There will be shuttles to and from the mall, a breakfast, time to explore downtown life and the Saturday night dance.
More than 2,000 vehicles will be on display in downtown Moncton and Centennial Park on Saturday and Sunday, starting at 8 a.m. and running to 5 p.m. Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday.
New attractions this year include three guest stars, Gene Winfield, Bryan Fuller and Courtney Hansen, as well as Artist Avenue in Centennial Park, which Doherty describes as 'a gathering of North American renowned automotive artists.' Hansen, the lone female guest star, is the hostess of Spike TV's PowerBlock TV . A meet and greet with her is scheduled for Saturday afternoon from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Action Car and Truck Accessories.
There's also the Cool Car College taking place in Centennial Park. This information session will give newbies several lessons on car care, paint products and pinstriping.
Admission into the park costs $10 for adults and $25 for families.

Bar Harbour 2013 Kentucky Derby Style

On Thursday, May 30th, 2013, I, along with co-pilot, Linda headed for Bar Harbour. (too long a story to write about why we missed meeting up with the Nova Scotianers) Top down, Kentucky Derby hats  packed, and as little other luggage as possible -  the hats took priority as well as a lot of space !

It was a quick trip!  We arrived at the Wonder View to sunshine and  high temps – I might add, that lasted for the  entire week-end.

Upon  arriving, we met up with old friends that were sipping and anticipating the arrival of Hank & Mary.  Registering in took very little time, as did finding our registration bag – the bags were beautiful and well designed – done  to  ‘theme and sewn , etc., by  a VOCM member. I couldn’t help but think that they sure do put ‘my plastic bags to shame !!! The name of  person  that made the bags, - DIANE BOSSERT.

Not too much changes from last year – we were on room level with the Nova Scotianers and folks from CSNB – first task for Kelly was to clean the car while Linda got us a cold beer and then the fun began !  Everybody was on a search for horses....and they were serious !!!  Last year, it was ‘spark plugs.  The Nova Scotianers were real serious and they never stopped searching.  We were, as well, but only found FIVE horses....compared to 30 plus that the NS’ers had !

It was a super week-end from start to finish.....from the parties in our 'parking lot to the eating and sipping downtown, the horse hunts, the Jordan Pond drive and lunch, the horse hunts, the drive  around the loop (loved that) more horse hunting and the Kentucky Derby night ! Terrific gourmet style buffet, wonderful photo ‘ops.....and prizes.  I was pleased to accept FIRST PLACE in my class......and it was really great to see Fern and Grant win the big prize as ‘favourite of the WonderView ! (they also took their class)  Many more prizes went to the Canadian  clubs from Nova Scotia and New Brunswick...if there had been a prize for top party folks, I think it would have gone to the same  clubs !

As in the past, I managed to listen each evening to the piano ‘stylings of the very talented Bill Trowell .  A good time was had by all and I have my reservation made at the Wonder View for next year ! Many thanks to Deb Shepard and everyone from VOCM for the wonderful hospitality...oh, and a big thanks to all of the other old friends and new friends that helped make this a super weekend !

RVV March’s Sunday Breakfast

March’s Sunday Breakfast:
March 17th. was a bright, sunny Sunday morning and about a dozen of the R.V.V. faithful gathered at the Hillside Grill for our monthly breakfast. The service was great, the food was great and the conversation last until noon! One member could not wait to get the Corvette out of the garage. It will not surprise anybody when I tell you that Wayne chauffeured  Eleanor to breakfast in their newly acquired 1965 Corvette Coupe!! It’s a cream puff. We did take a moment to remember the half dozen or so members who missed this warm, fuzzy team building activity because they were in the wrong country. Maybe they will be lucky enough to join us for April’s breakfast. Watch for an announcement.

RVV After Xmas Xmas Party 2013

R.V.V. After Xmas Xmas Party: On Saturday, Jan. 19th. R.V.V. members gathered at Rick Kelly’s home for their annual After Xmas Xmas Party. Twenty eight members enjoyed the delicious pot luck food members contributed. If you can name it; it was there. John T. was reported seen building cardboard sides to his plate! Members also participated in a Corvette/Corvette Club Trivia game. After almost 75 questions the team of Ron G. and Marilyn W. were awarded the Dollarama Trivia Cup and enough Loonies for Ron to bring Anne to our Sunday morning breakfast. John T. conducted the Yankee Swap with his usual innovative style that kept everyone paying real close attention to where everything was going. It was a great night and if you missed it, you missed out on a lot of fun. Special thanks to all the cooks for the food, John T. for the entertaining Yankee Swap, Julia P. for the trivia idea and especially Rick K. for opening his home to us.
