Santa Comes Early to Dawn Garwood
Old man Santa came early to RVV member Dawn Garwood this year. He dropped off this beautiful 2009 yellow C6 convertible in her driveway .Apparently it has some very nice features such as the power roof and the very cool dual mode exhaust...! I guess Dawn was a real good girl this year. Now , ya only got to wait a few months to hit the pavement.. Hopefully winter will come and go fast ! Unfortunately not fast enough for me !!! Congratulations Dawn , I know you're gonna have fun in this puppy !!!

Hi all,
To those members who
participated in the GMCC President's run yesterday, thank you !
It was fantastic to see 39
corvettes in a row on the roads in the Sussex/Hampton/Norton areas.
If the colors in the trees didn't generate ooo's and aaaa's, our corvettes
certainly did.
I apologize for the delay in
getting your playing card at the first bridge and for not having a "bio" stop
before heading to Norton, but I hope everyone got through that ok. The
restaurant sends their apologies to the couple of tables that were late
getting their food. Marty did the best he could in letting them know the
numbers ahead of time and I don't think it was for lack of servers (who
took the orders to the cook, one table at a time). I think they just fell behind
with the quantity of food we were consuming. Not sure how that could
have been handled differently other than to split us up.
But I hope that the day was
considered a success.... lots of friends from the NS and 3 NB clubs.
It is great when we can all get together like that.
Thank you again for coming on
our run.

Trip to Tabusintac
Tour to Tabusintac and Linda & Alfred’s Cottage
One thing can be said by all about this tour is it was one of the most enjoyable trips that the club has had in years. Weather great and company enjoyable. We started out expecting a big turnout of members to meet up at City Hall in downtown Fredericton, but as John and Pauline waited for the 9 am departure only one car showed up, and that was Vern and Julia, so the two cars departed for the North side to meet up with Ron, Anne and Malcolm and Simone. Ironic there were two coupes, one white and one black and met up with two convertibles, one white and one black. Leaving Targett’s on St. Mary’s road where Vernon took the lead and it was decided to change leaders each half hour. This made driving interesting, (and we would not want to say who made a wrong turn). On our way, we met up with Jacques and Monique Bossy in Blackville, who drive a black convertible, keeping up with the color scheme. After stopping in Miramichi, we contacted Alfred at his cottage and arranged to meet at the Catholic church in Tabusintac. Alfred’s friend Mark from Neguac also joined us with his Blue 08 Z06. From there Alfred led us on a great tour of Tabusintac area of historical sights and points of interest with a full documentary and many stops along the way. Mark brought up the rear. (Color co-ordination had to be kept, red, black, white black white, black and blue). Most of us were not familiar with this area and were all impressed. We ended up at Alfred and Linda’s outstanding cottage on the Tabusintac riverfront with a million dollar view. With financial contribution from the RVV coffers Alfred and Linda put on a great barbeque, preceded by a tray of appetizers, with good and healthy salad and lots of fattening desserts, the open bar was very much appreciated but the lucky prize was a complete hit. A contest about the guided tour was won by Simone & Malcolm with second prize going to Pauline & John and third prize to Vern and Julia. I am sure if we had known ahead of time more notes would have been taken. Shortly before we left we had a surprise visit by Linda’s father and he picked out his choice of car and donated a great C5 leather jacket to the winner. Shortly after 4:30 pm we departed for home and had a good run home with a couple of pit-stops. Jacque and Monique left us in Blackville and thanked us for including them in the trip as they really enjoyed the trip as we did with their company.
Anyone who did not make the trip really missed out on and exceptional day.
We want to thank Alfred and Linda for opening up their cottage to the club and arranging a fantastic tour and making us feel at home. We are all invited back again at any time. We are happy that John T. came up with the great idea for the trip.
p.s. All the leftover hotdogs were eaten by Vern…….

Corvettes in Carlilse 2011
Some pictures from Corvettes at Carlisle. The Number 3 car (a 1960 Corvette
racer) was the original car that ran Lemans that year. It was found after
many years searching for it and purchased by the Miller's who own the
Carlisle Fairgrounds. It was completely restored and it did a lap at Lemans
a year ago with the winning driver of 1960 behind the wheel. I believe that
his name was John Fitch. He's no longer a young man! There are also some
pictures of the new 2012 Carlisle Blue Corvettes....I think that colour is
gorgeous. I have one on either side of me. My car made the front page of
the local paper, but you have to look hard to see it. There is a picture of
Will Cooksey and I in front of the grandstand. Will took Joanne as his
guest to the GM executive banquet. She was thrilled. Will was Plant
Manager at the Bowling Green facility for years and was loved by all. He
did a burnout at Carlisle a year or two ago with a new GM owned Corvette.
He literally tore it up. Tire came apart and it destroyed the rear fender.
GM will no longer authorize a car for the burnout event! We also got to
meet and spend a little time with Lance Miller the son of Chip Miller (who
passed away at 61 years of age) who created the car events in Carlisle and
owns the fairgrounds. You can also see the marquee with Carlisle in lights
and a few shots of the parade. One picture shows the Palmer's '71 with
Joanne cheering them on and another of Betty May Madden's '85. She won a
trophy for one of the celebrity cars. There are also some shots of the
Saint John crew that caravanned down. There are a couple of shots of retro
cars....for the years 1963 and 1967. Some nice pictures of T REX 03. It's
incredible the work that some people put into their cars. It was a great
time. Hurricane Irene made her presence known on Saturday and the event was
closed on Sunday with many tents having been removed, others blown down but
no cars damaged as most everything had been taken away. Our Vettes were
nicely stored in underground parking at the Holiday Inn Express. We still
lost power for half of Sunday however. Bill Brown made a purchase but it
wasn't a Corvette. Vern and Julia were the only Fredericton folks that we
saw during the event. I encountered no one from my Florida clubs.

RVV member Lois Hiltz's Birthday
The August 30th Ice Cream Run
Well, it was a bit
different run than usual.........but there was ice cream -
a couple different flavours and there was a delicious cake.....following
a few other nibbles and pop, wine or beer. No coffee because the
coffee pot is packed away in some warehouse for a couple months......(long
story)
Lois Hiltz was having a
birthday, so we decided to do an impromptu surprise party.............I was
hoping to see the ‘regulars arrive for ice cream run..planned to lead the ‘crew
on a short run to 338 Golf Club Road ! Those who did the run to
‘338 were :Vern and Julia, Ron and Anne, Wanda and Mark and, Linda
MacDonald. ....special guest, Lois was accompanied by her
favourite chauffeur, Tom. )))
A pleasant evening was spent on
the deck until those flying critters decided to join us...then we
were forced inside to enjoy the cake and ice cream. A tour of the
empty basement was given by Leigh. A good time was
had by all.

Harvey Community Days 2011
What happens in Harvey, stays in Harvey.
( not all )
The Saturday weather was perfect as 3 Corvettes met
at O'leary's and made their way to Harvey to join 3 more R.V.V. Corvettes for
the Harvey Community Days Parade. Participating members included Wanda Gadd, Tom
& Lois Hiltz, Vernon & Julia Patriquin, John & Pauline Thompson,
Peter Wood and Granddaughter and Arnie Adams & Grandson. The 9:30 form up at
the High School was very well organized as was the entire parade!! We threw
candy to the kids, had each car acknowledged at the reviewers stand, glowed with
pride at all the envious comments from the hundreds of spectators and arrived at
the Fair Grounds at 10:45. We viewed some incredible antique engines, crafts,
lots of games etc. and eventually made our way to the Thompson residence.
Because of threats of bodily harm I can't
reveal too much about the next 4 hours except to say that food was involved as
was wobbly pop, a party barge tour of Harvey Lake, a topless person and a very,
very giggly female from Geary. All of that plus a memorable run home in time to
go the stock car races!! You will have to consult a participant for
details.

RVV Members Conquer Mt Washington
This past long weekend members from River Valley Vettes travelled to New Hampshire, USA for gathering in North Conway . Making the run were Pat , Harley and Tanner Smearer , Tom , Lois and Logan Hiltz , Vernon and Julia Patriquin , John and Jean Johnston and Peter and Marilyn Wood. It was a perfect long weekend and the weather couldn't have been better. Sunny and temperatures in the 80's were much appreciated when deciding to ascend Mount Washington. At 6,288 feet, Mount Washington is the tallest point in the Northeastern USA. It's location at the convergence of three major storm tracks means that it gets battered year-round by some of the most extreme conditions on the planet. In fact ,the fastest wind speed ever observed by man --231 mph --- was recorded here in 1934 by the crew of the Mount Washington Observatory. Nowhere else on earth is readily found such a consistant combination of sub-zero temperatures, hurricane- force winds , freezing fog and blowing snow.Mount Washington is so unique that even though it is located in a temperate climate zone , it acually experiences the conditions of a sub-arctic environment ! The mountain's average days of fog per year is 237 , so we struck it there the right time as you could see for miles.Highest possible visibility is 130 miles. Thanks to Vernon Patriquin and Peter Wood for driving us all up the mountain and down again with no incident as the road is very narrow with no guard rails . When meeting another vehicle , there is not much room , and there's nothing there but air.

All tops were down ! the Patriquins, Goods, MacDonalds, Goulds and the Kellys........(HDK and I) We headed downriver to the Big Pumpkin for our weekly treat - there was a bit of fighting with mosquitoes.... we soon discovered that they were after ankles and arms, not ice cream. We talked, laughed and solved many of the world`s problems. Looking forward to many more Tuesday night ice cream runs and we hope to see more corvettes out. Every Tuesday (except meeting nights) during the summer.

Meet and Greet 2011 with RVV
This years Meet and Greet was held at Royal Canadian Legion on Queen St and participants had a great time at Casino Night , gambling the night away. Meeting old friends and having a few laughs was in order and I think everyone had fun playing the wheels and trying to bankrupt the bank. A dance followed with a local Minto band the "Dave McNeil Band "supplying the music.

Fiberglass Alley 2011
This Father's Day weeked was also River Valley Vettes "Fiberglass Alley 2011" in Fredericton and everything went off well except for Mother Nature and her mean ways ! Yes , RAIN again but we had to make do with what she gave us .In total we had approximately 40 corvettes. Several cars from NS, PEI ,Moncton , Saint John and the US. Nice to see Hank and Mary Ellanbast and their beautiful Corvette Calloway, Wilfred and Tina Thibodeau with their hot C4 coupe and also Barry and Debbie Sheppard with their new sleek C6 Roadster.Wilfred had a bit of mechanical problem with their C4 but Ron Gould and Malcom MacDonald came to the rescue................ Ron finding the part at Auto Machinery and Malcom installing it ! Mayor Brad Woodside was in attendance to say a few words on behalf of the city. We had 3 official judges this year to judge the cars and to decide which was the best of each class. From Oleary Buick GMC, part owner Aubrey Ward , from World Class Auto , Jamie Wheaton and from Moncton , Doug MacDonald, MacDonald Corvettes was on hand to pick their favorite cars .I'll be posting the winners a little later when I get the offficial list .
